DEVON AREA JUNE MEETING.

Meeting opened at 20:06 hrs.

Apologies……………

Shane, Paul, Alec, Clive, Ian,

Welcome………………

A warm welcome back to the fold was extended to Carroll Tidey, an early member of the M V C G and a jeep owner.

Last months minutes……..

Minutes produced and circulated.

Matters arising…………….

Events, (separate agenda)

Recent events………………..

Rod went with Preston as a Jeep passenger to Trucks & Troops, a good show, but is it wise in this day and age with fuel prices the way they are to have two shows at the same time so close? It was cold, grey and windy, so not the public attendance they would hope for, and noticeably fewer trade stands, but good fun nevertheless. Should ration packs have a ‘Best before’ date?

Forthcoming events..........

Top of the list has to be Buckfastleigh, (9th 10th July). Entry forms are still coming in – thanks for these. If you’ve not yet sent in a form, please do so; we’re trying to plan to make the best of the space.

Update from Rod:

From the railway’s perspective, success will obviously be measured by the number of visitors turning up and spending money with them. More visitors means more cars, so they need space for extra parking, and that means they’ll need to use a part of the field (as they have before).

We’ve re-planned the field to make the best of the available space by moving things around, so please be aware you may not be occupying the same place this year that you’ve used in the past. We’ll make room for everyone and do all we can to fit in with your requirements, but we’d appreciate your good-humoured co-operation getting it all sorted out.

To the same end, the railway are keen for us to interact with them as much as possible to encourage passengers onto the trains. Those in uniform or suitably dressed will be invited to ride free on the trains and we’ll try to get a little bit of theatrical business going where we can to add interest to the journey. Please be prepared to play along if you can!

Please contact Jenny or Rod if able to help set up, and please DON’T FORGET DRAW PRIZES.

Can everyone please note the events list (latest copy attached), and try to support your local event. And if anyone gets wind of a show/event that is not listed please contact Rob Miller.

Request ………………………

A Jeep is wanted to take 3 sixteen year old girls to their prom, it’s a Torquay do on 2nd July, contact details attached.

Club matters…………………..

Rod is after some stuff for Drogo – specifically a couple of inexpensive metal detectors (to create a challenge for kids where they have to find a safe path through a ‘minefield’). He’s also looking to created a ‘bomb disposal’ challenge based on the ‘Operation’ game where kids have to remove a component – in this case a ‘fuse’ - from a dud ‘bomb’ against the clock without touching it against the casing and triggering a buzzer. So anyone with a suitably bomb-like cylinder or ideas how to build the thing to contact Rod please.

Next year is Her Majesty the Queen’s diamond jubilee; it is possible that the club vehicles may be wanted for events, but as it’s a 3 day bank holiday what about a tour, maybe after D-Day but in time for Falaise? Have a think, and we can chat about it at future meetings.

Next month’s meeting will still be Wednesday 20th July, although it’ll probably be a bit quieter than normal as some club members will be at Beltring.

Meeting closed at 20:40hrs . That’s twenty to nine in old money – something of a record!

Raffle,

Zane took charge of the Raffle in Clive’s absence, (very well too, could be a future in it for you Zane!)
